9 Probiotic Strains + FOS
Xtra-Brain® combines nine probiotic strains from CHR Hansen’s UAS Laboratories portfolio with fructooligosaccharides (FOS) prebiotic fiber. The product is built around the gut-brain axis — the bidirectional communication network between the gut microbiota and the central nervous system — with the primary structure-function role of supporting digestive health and a healthy gut microbiome in healthy adults.
Sharp-PS® Green
Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a phospholipid that accounts for 13–15% of all phospholipids in the human cerebral cortex — making it one of the most abundant structural components of brain cell membranes. 5-Brain® uses Sharp-PS® Green: a sunflower-derived, soy-free, non-GMO form that is the only dietary supplement ingredient to have received FDA qualified health claims relating to cognitive function.
Meriva® Curcumin
Curcumin — the principal bioactive compound in turmeric (Curcuma longa) — has been studied extensively for its associations with brain health, BDNF, and antioxidant defense. The problem: standard curcumin is notoriously poorly absorbed by the body. Meriva® is Indena’s patented phytosome technology that addresses this absorption challenge through a phospholipid complex — supported by a single peer-reviewed Meriva-specific human pharmacokinetic finding of approximately 29-fold improved curcuminoid absorption.
Liposomal Delivery
Liposomes are microscopic spherical structures formed from phospholipid bilayers — the same class of lipid molecule that makes up natural cell membranes. Liposomal delivery encapsulates an active ingredient within these lipid spheres, offering an alternative to capsule or tablet formats. In Xynaptic Drops™, Cognizin® citicoline is delivered within a liposomal bilayer constructed from sunflower lecithin. This page explains what that means scientifically, and where we draw the line on what can and cannot be claimed for it.
Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo biloba is a tree species that has survived unchanged for over 270 million years, making it one of the oldest living plant species on Earth. Its standardized leaf extract is among the most extensively studied botanical compounds in all of science — with decades of research investigating its associations with attention, memory-related function, and healthy cerebral circulation.
Liposomal Citicoline
Citicoline (CDP-choline) is a naturally occurring compound the body uses to make phosphatidylcholine, the major structural phospholipid of brain cell membranes, and to support acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter central to attention and memory. Xynaptic Drops™ delivers Cognizin® — Kyowa Hakko Bio’s patented, branded form of citicoline used in the published clinical research — carried within a liposomal lipid bilayer built from sunflower lecithin. 250 mg of Cognizin® per 1 mL liquid serving.
Chocamine®
Chocamine® is a patented, standardized cocoa extract from RFI LLC that delivers cocoa’s bioactive compounds — principally theobromine, caffeine, and cocoa polyphenols/flavanols — without the fat, sugar, or calories of chocolate. The 5-Brain® Chocamine® blend contains 40 mg of caffeine per daily serving and is a stimulant-containing ingredient.
Bacopa Monnieri
Bacopa monnieri (Sanskrit: Brahmi) is one of the most extensively researched botanicals in cognitive science, with a documented history of use in Ayurvedic medicine spanning roughly 3,000 years. Modern randomized controlled trials in healthy adults have studied Bacopa for memory, learning, and information processing, with effects typically emerging after 8–12 weeks of consistent daily use.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) is a naturally occurring amino-acid derivative that crosses the blood–brain barrier more readily than plain L-carnitine. In the brain, it plays two well-characterized biochemical roles: supporting mitochondrial energy metabolism by facilitating fatty-acid transport for ATP production, and serving as an acetyl-group donor involved in the synthesis of acetylcholine — a neurotransmitter associated with memory and learning.
